Description

The bowl is a central component of Japanese style tea service, as used in the tasting ritual for Matcha green tea. This highly regimented ceremony, referred to as Cha No Yu, was introduced to Japan in the 9th century  by monks who had travelled to China. It evokes calm, respect, harmony, and purity. This ceremony is still practiced today, however, you can also prepare your Matcha tea more simply at home, in order to sample its gentle, smooth, and herbal notes, referred to by the Japanese as "umami".

This black bowl with finely worked details will enable you to prepare your Matcha tea in accordance with the purest of Japanese tradition. To prepare your Matcha tea, you will need: a bowl, a small strainer and a small bamboo whisk. You simply have to sieve one gram of powdered Matcha tea into the bowl, and then add 80ml of simmering water that has been heated to 80°C. All that remains is to whisk energetically using the small bamboo whisk, moving in a "W" shape, for around 30 seconds to one minute. Your tea is ready to be enjoyed once a fine foam appears on the surface.

Manufacturing secrets

A precious plucking

Thés de La Pagode® respects an age-old tradition to ensure that all the benefits of tea are preserved. Indeed, the quality and fragrance of a tea are determined, among other things, by the type of leaf picked. In spring, in the gardens of Thés de la Pagode®, the "Imperial Plucking" is practiced: the pluckers select only the bud ("Pekoe" in Mandarin) and the first leaf. Another technique used is "fine picking". In this case, the pickers remove the bud and the first two leaves.
